Accelerated Reader (AR), sponsored by our PTA,  is an individualized reading software program that allows each student to read at his or her own pace and level of ability. 

Each book within the program has been evaluated for reading level and length.  Based on those two factors, each book is assigned a point value.  The longer the book and the higher the reading level, the more points a book is worth. 

After reading the book, a student takes a multiple choice test on a school computer.  The test measures the comprehension of the book.

              A.R. Awards for this school year will be Friday, May 16, 2008


Grades 2-5:  When students reach 25 points, they will be presented with a "Star Reader" hat.  Pins will be presented as they reach various cumulative reading milestones, such as 100, 200, 300, 500 and 1000 points.

Annual grade level goals (20 points for second grade, 30 points for 3rd grade, 40 points for fourth grade and 50 points for fifth grade) will be rewarded with an invitation to an ice cream party with Miss Wiegand and a special pin for their hats.

The AR Store:  Watch for news on the opening of the AR store this year.  Students will be able to purchase items using points earned.

End-of-the-Year Picnic:  Miss Wiegand will be taking the top 10 point earners on a picnic at the end of the school year and each will be awarded a special pin.
